Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and help close attainment gaps between eligible pupils and their peers.

Funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who are eligible for free school meals, have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the previous six years, are looked after by a local authority, have left care through adoption or other formal arrangements, or qualify for Service Pupil Premium.

Pupil Premium funding is allocated directly to schools because they are best placed to identify barriers to learning and determine the support required for individual pupils and groups.

How We Use the Funding

At Mendlesham Primary School, Pupil Premium funding is used to support a range of approaches including:

  • High-quality teaching and adaptive classroom practice
  • Targeted academic support
  • Pastoral and wellbeing support
  • Attendance and engagement initiatives
  • Access to enrichment opportunities and educational visits
  • Resources and interventions to remove barriers to learning

Accountability

The impact of pupil premium funding is monitored by school leaders, the Local Advisory Board and the Oxlip Learning Partnership. Funding decisions are reviewed regularly to ensure they support improved outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Schools are required to publish information about how funding is spent and the difference it makes to pupil outcomes. Ofsted also considers the attainment, progress and wider experiences of disadvantaged pupils as part of inspection activity.

Further Information

For further information about Pupil Premium please contact Tessa Sait or Sarah King via the school office.

The Local Advisory Board has oversight of the school's use of Pupil Premium funding and receives regular reports regarding its impact on pupil achievement.
