Chestnut Class
Welcome to Chestnut Class
Mrs Quinn is our class teacher, supported by Mrs Casey and Mrs Steed.
Look out for useful information, suggestions and tips posted here and let us know if you can think of anything that we could add to this page that would help you and your classmates with your school tasks.
PE lessons will take place on Monday and Tuesday, so please ensure children have the correct kit in school on these days.
Homework will include activities on EdShed Spelling Shed, regular practice of the Year 5/6 Common Exception Words (a copy of which is in each child’s reading planner), Times Tables Rockstars, and continued reading at home at least three times a week. Children will also bring home the arithmetic papers they have completed in school, along with notes highlighting areas for further focus. In addition, Stick and Split logins have been sent home to support learning. If your child needs extra help with maths, the Mr Maths channel on YouTube provides clear explanations of different methods that can be very useful.
Details of writing standards and statutory spelling lists can be found below, together with termly newsletters.

✨ Hook Day: Blind Bag Adventure! ✨
To launch our new English writing unit, the children took part in an exciting Hook Day using blind bags! Each bag contained mysterious clues, objects, and words linked to our focus text, Pax by Sara Pennypacker. Pupils explored the contents with great curiosity, using their imaginations to predict characters, settings, and themes. This activity sparked lively discussions, built excitement for the story ahead, and inspired some fantastic descriptive language right from the start. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and creativity as the children dived into their new learning journey!
